3. Why Magnetic Field Testing Is Required (IATA & ICAO Rules)

According to IATA DGR – Section 3.9.2.2 (Magnetized Material):

A package is considered Magnetized Material if the magnetic field strength exceeds 0.00525 gauss (0.000525 mT) at a distance of 2.1 meters from any surface of the package.

To be accepted for air transport:

The variation in magnetic field must not exceed 0.002 gauss (0.0002 mT) at 2.1 meters, ensuring it does not affect the aircraft’s magnetic compass or navigation systems.
