Guided Wave Testing (GWT)

NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING

Mã khóa học:

1. Inspection Equipment Used by AITECH

AITECH utilizes advanced Guided Wave Ultrasonic Testing (GWUT) technology to inspect pipeline systems efficiently, especially those with insulation, buried, or difficult-to-access segments. Our system allows for 100% volumetric coverage from a single test location—minimizing preparation time and maximizing inspection range.

 Main Equipment

  • Wavemaker® G4mini
An industry-leading tool for GWUT applications. It is compact, lightweight, and engineered for screening long pipeline sections. The G4mini offers:

    • Full volumetric coverage from a single position

    • Quick setup and automatic sensor recognition

    • Consistent, high-quality data output in field conditions

  • WavePro4™ Software
A Windows®-based platform for acquisition, validation, and interpretation of guided wave data. Key features include:

    • C-Scan imaging with Enhanced Focusing Capability (EFC)

    • Amplitude auto-calibration with Absolute Calibration License

    • False echo elimination via advanced reverberation simulation

Sensor & Transducer Setup

  • High-temperature EFC transducers: 6", 10", 12"

  • Solid ring modules: 2", 3", 4"

  • Standard and wide-frequency transducer modules (35 mm)

2. Operating Principle of GWUT

The Wavemaker G4 Mini Pipe Screening System uses ultrasonic guided waves to detect changes in the cross-section or stiffness of a pipe. It is a powerful tool for screening long pipeline segments in both directions from a central location.

Testing Mechanism

  • Ultrasonic waves are generated by a ring of transducers and transmitted axially through the pipe wall.

  • When encountering wall loss, corrosion, welds, or cracks, part of the wave energy reflects back.

  • The reflected signals are analyzed to determine the location, severity, and circumferential extent of anomalies.

 Key Terminology

  • Axial direction: Along the pipe’s main axis

  • Circumferential extent: Percentage of the pipe’s circumference affected

  • Cross-section change: Increase (e.g. welds) or decrease (e.g. corrosion) in wall area

  • C-Scan: Unrolled image of the pipe for easy defect localization

Advanced Capabilities

  • Enhanced Focusing Capability (EFC): Enables full matrix capture and unwrapped imaging

  • Absolute Calibration: Auto-calibrates signal amplitudes and eliminates false echoes for more reliable results

 Advantages of AITECH's GWT Service

  • Efficient inspection of buried, insulated, or elevated pipelines

  • Non-invasive and non-destructive, suitable during operation

  • Early detection of internal and external corrosion

  • Cutting-edge instrumentation with continuous software updates

  • Certified and experienced team, trained for critical Oil & Gas projects
