Eddy Current Testing (ECT) is a non-destructive testing method that uses electromagnetic induction to detect surface and near-surface defects in conductive materials. At AITECH, we employ AVIKO 4080 G2 machine to conduct 100% inspection of steel balls used in wind energy, precision machinery, and automotive industries.

An alternating current is applied to the probe to generate a magnetic field. When the probe is placed near a metallic surface, eddy currents are induced. Defects disrupt the current flow, resulting in a change in electrical impedance, which is recorded and analyzed.
Balls are demagnetized (<1 Gauss)
Testing room controlled at 18°C to 28°C, dust-free and free of direct sunlight
Clean surfaces are mandatory
Use certified Master Balls with artificial defects for sensitivity setup
Adjust frequency, phase angle, and gain for each ECT channel
Calibration check performed every 4 hours or per batch
Steel balls pass through AVIKO’s high-speed ECT sensors
Automatic classification:
Acceptable (OK)
Reworkable (repair and retest once)
Rejected (NG)
NG balls undergo Macro Test using hydrochloric acid
If cracks or metallurgical defects are found, balls are scrapped
AVIKO 4080 G2 – EN 15548 compliant
Multi-frequency ECT Sensors (150–3600 kHz, standard at 400 kHz)
